M0739 CHONDRODITE Tilly Foster Mine, Brewster, NY $1500.00 Click here to order by check or money order ...
A classic specimen of two contacted but intact chondrodite crystals on Tilly Foster mine ore. This mine was closed in 1895, making it at least 110 years since the piece was removed from the mine. Mining methods and collecting standards have changed greatly since then and specimen damage was more acceptable to collectors in the old days. This piece has been repaired but the repair was done pretty well and the main crystals are intact. This is a piece of mineralogic and mining history from an antique, long extinct locality. The recent find of clinohumite, a closely related mineral, from Afghanistan is nearest in terms of quality for a mineral rarely seen in well crystallized specimens. Specimen size: approx 5.3 cm. X 4 cm. X 2.7 cm.
